Rachel Black Graves
Owner, ISSA, SFG, TLS
Rachel is an ex-corporate warrior turned fitness professional, mindset coach and entrepreneur. She’s an ISSA certified personal trainer, an SFG kettlebell specialist, a leading TLS certified health coach, and the owner of Grit and Gratitude. She has battled through her own struggles with weight, hormone imbalances, anxiety and depression, and shame to create the program and environment she always wished existed when she was on her journey. She’s passionate about helping her community realize their health and fitness goals without becoming a slave to the gym via intense, efficient workouts, structured and sustainable nutrition, and accountability from the amazing team and community we’ve built. She helps clients shed the old stories of shame that no longer serve them by helping them tap into the strength they never knew they had.
“YOU are not broken. YOU are not too much. YOU are enough right now. It IS possible to learn to love yourself as you are, while working toward stepping into your FULL power, and keeping your sanity in the process. We can help you do just that, and we can introduce you to some amazing people that ARE doing that today. In an industry known for asking us to shrink down, I ask you to stand up. In a culture that tells you to be smaller, I want to help you get stronger. And in a world that engrains self-loathing in us from the time we can speak, I want to teach you self-love and self-care as a way of becoming exactly who you were meant to be in this world.”
Head Coach, NASM, SFG
Coach Ally has been with us for 3 years and is amazing! Her smile is infectious and her leadership is undeniable. Coaching was a natural fit for her after serving as captain of the UCONN women’s rowing team in college. Ally is no stranger to the challenges our clients face with body composition and has undergone her own 80-pound transformation. She is a master at making complex movements simple and infusing even the most skeptical of clients with motivation and confidence in themselves.
“Learn to celebrate your victories, no matter how small they are. If your values and goals are not in line with someone else’s, that’s not your problem. Be true to you. Be present in your own body; rather than letting your mind take you somewhere where the value of your success is determined by someone else. Continue to set goals for yourself. These goals don’t have to be big. Small steps and tangible goals have been life changing for me. You are taking care of you. And you deserve to be proud of yourself every step of the way for all the effort you put into becoming the best version of yourself.”
Coach Becca is the heartbeat of our team. She too started as a client, shined as an intern for us, and has quickly grown into a force to be reckoned with. Her attention to detail and natural ability to break things down into bite sized chunks for clients has led to many an ah-ha moment for our tribe. Her energy is contagious. Her joy is undeniable, and it's clear she loves what she does.
“Helping our members conquer fears and go from a ‘no way I can do that’ mindset, to a ‘HEY I did that’ mindset is the best! Watching them leave a session full of confidence, surrounded by high fives and beaming with pride in what they just accomplished makes my heart burst. I’m so proud of the community we have and the work we get to do because of it!”
Coach Kim was a client for a year before stepping into her coaching role. She credits one of our Glow Up Challenge experiences for the complete 180 she managed to do in her fitness and nutrition life. She is the picture of passion, and her work ethic is second to none. We adore her, and are so grateful for her specific brand of tough love!
“All I can say is trust the process. Since getting control over my nutrition and continuing to push myself in the gym, everything in my life has improved and expanded. It sounds sort of sad to me now, but I actually have self-worth because of all of it. I don’t think I ever realized how much I was lacking that before. I can see it with everything, particularly when it comes to deciding who, and what deserves my energy. Because I value myself more and because I am choosier with who and what gets my energy. Over the last few years of being diligent with respecting myself enough to actually show up for ME, I feel like every day really is an opportunity to be a better version of myself, than I was the day before. I have that desire for all of you and challenge you all to be the best version of you every day. Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go!”
PN1, PN2 Nutrition Specialist
Coach Shelley is proof that powerful things come in small packages! She started with us as a client, and then joined us as a coach, training well into her pregnancy with her daughter Sadie! Nutrition has always been her passion, so we decided to shift gears once Sadie came and got Shelley Precision Nutrition certified. She helps to take the fear, guilt and anxiety out of nutrition for our clients, and offers tons of educational resources and accountability measures to help them reach their goals.
“I always loved to workout and always thought more was better. I never looked at my nutrition and was always counting my calories. I was sore and tired all the time, stressing my body out plus my hormones were out of whack. I was all-over the place. It wasn’t working and I needed to change my process. My sister referred me to Grit and Gratitude and I decided to participate in a 6-week challenge. Needless to say I was hooked! I loved the format and the atmosphere AND I saw results. I started focusing on the nutrition, something I never did before. I was eating so much more then ever before and working out less. It is simple and it works. That led me to becoming a coach and then when I got pregnant I decided that I wanted to focus on the nutrition aspect since it has had such a huge impact on my journey. It is something I am so passionate about and I want to help you guys with whatever you need.”
