We've been diving into each of our core values over the last couple of weeks. We've covered Powerful Community and Powerful Results so far. Let's dive into our third core value - Purposeful Passion.
What's the first thing that comes to mind when you hear Purposeful Passion?
Does it seem redundant?
Does it get you excited because you can immediately think of things you're passionately working towards?
How are those going?
First and foremost, this goes back to your WHY. Before we add Purpose, we must first know our Passion, right? What's important to you? What's on your mind ALL the time? Why are you doing what you're doing? What's the point? Many of you have written these WHYS up on our wall at the gym. I love looking at them every day, and I hope they serve as a reminder for YOU as you pass by them.
But here's the thing...having Passion alone isn't enough. Passion without Purpose is a missed opportunity to do something remarkable. It's like vision without action. It's only half of the equation.
Many of us confuse Persistence with Purpose. We think if we just keep trying REALLY hard, then we'll eventually reach our goal. But Persistence without Purpose just leads to exhaustion.
So this goes back to working smarter versus working harder. It's what our entire program is based upon. It's the reason we're sticklers for punctuality, for form and for engagement - becaaauuuuse the way you do anything is the way you do everything.
Purpose is your plan.. It's the roadmap to your Passion. It drives it. It's the HOW to your Passion's WHY.
When it comes to your fitness goals, MAKE sure you're operating from a place of PURPOSE versus merely a place of PERSISTENCE. We see lots of frustrated people working from a place of persistence when they first start with us. They're doing what they've always done expecting different results. If I can just work harder... If I can just go longer... If I can just move faster... It's the difference in aimlessly flailing around during an exercise versus executing it with flawless form and an appropriate load. Working harder will only get you so far. At some point, if you want to get to the next level - working smarter will be key.
This is where full engagement during workouts and those 30 minute consults come in handy BIG TIME. Sometimes just having another set of eyes on your passion can help tremendously. We can get really bogged down in the work of it all, that we miss some tiny tweaks that can make ALL the difference in our success.
Your Passion drives you towards your long term goal(s). Your Purpose is the day in and day out action you take in the short term to chip away at that.
My passion is helping people live their best lives - physically, mentally and emotionally. My purpose is to serve the community I've built through intelligent strength and conditioning programming, sane and simple nutrition strategies, and access to an empowering environment where they feel safe, seen and celebrated.
My purpose is my HOW. My passion is my WHY. And together, they're changing the world around me for good.
How about you?
Have some purpose about you this week, Tribe. If you need help determining what that is, let us know! Purpose behind your Passion WILL change this world and there's nothing we'd rather spend our time doing!
